Man Cited for Public Drunkenness, Theft from NAC Among Recent Police Activity

A man was charged with DUI Saturday, police cited another for public drunkenness and a theft was reported from a locker at the Newtown Athletic Club.

Newtown Township Police reported the following recent activity:

Saturday, April 20

At approximately 11:35 p.m., an officer observed a motorist commit multiple traffic violations on the Newtown Bypass.  The driver was stopped by police on the Newtown Bypass near Woodburn Road and was identified as a 59-year-old Bristol resident. He was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.  He was transported to Saint Mary Medical to have blood drawn for testing.  Charges of DUI are pending the results of the lab work.

Sunday, April 21

Shortly after 2 a.m., police were advised of an intoxicated male subject walking on South Sycamore Street towards the 7-Eleven.  The responding officer made contact with the 29-year-old Newtown man and said he appeared to be unsteady on his feet. He was swaying and smelled of alcohol, police said. The man was taken home by two friends and advised that he will receive a citation charging him with Public Drunkenness.

At approximately 7 p.m. police were dispatched to the Newtown Athletic Club after a Newtown Township resident reported that his wallet was stolen from a locker at the gym. The victim told the officer that he locked his wallet in a locker around 1:40 p.m. He told police, when he returned around 3:30 p.m., the locker was open and the wallet was gone.
