Newtown Man Involved in Cycle Crash on I-95
Daniel McBride's motorcycle was hit by a box truck that did not stop Saturday afternoon in Lower Makefield.
Daniel McBride was heading to his Newtown home via I-95 Saturday afternoon when the white box truck he was sharing the road with abruptly struck the rear of his 1998 Suzuki motorcycle which he recently restored.
The 27-year-old and his bike went off the concrete ramp on I-95 that leads to the Newtown Bypass; he slid about 20 feet across the ground and landed in path of oncoming traffic.

Thankfully, the motorists who were coming up the off ramp and up toward the Newtown Bypass stopped. The driver of the white box truck that state troopers say caused the accident did not.
Daniel McBride’s mother, Kelly, said on Monday that she is just happy her son suffered only minor injuries. She adds that she is understandably upset that the driver of the truck did not stop.

According to a crash report issued by the State Police outpost in Trevose, the driver of the white truck was at fault for the accident.
The report states the driver violated the state motor vehicle code by “following too closely.“
Kelly McBride said she believes the truck driver nearly missed the exit and quickly merged into the lane and didn’t see Daniel McBride on his bike.
As of Monday afternoon, the driver has not been located or spoken with police about the accident.
The truck that is said to have caused the accident was last seen traveling north on the Bypass, troopers released.
The 27-year-old cyclist was attended to by EMS personnel at the scene of the crash Saturday afternoon. Daniel McBride did not feel his injuries warranted a trip by ambulance to the hospital, his mother said.
When Daniel McBride awoke Sunday morning, after working at his job at McCaffrey’s in Newtown the night after the crash, he was sore all over.
“He’s a good kid,” she said. “He works two jobs, he went to the community college. He didn’t need this.”
The avid cyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to Kelly McBride and police.
“It’s his full face helmet that saved him,” she said. Daniel McBride was also wearing gloves, a jacket and jeans.
