Newtown Township police have arrested a 22-year old Newtown man in conjunction with a burglary that occurred Thursday on North Ascot Court.

Police said just before 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 8, police were dispatched to a home on North Ascot Court for a report of a burglary in progress. According to the victim, the male suspect, later identified as Gerald M. Saylor, ran from the house.

Police set up a perimeter around the area and requested assistance from Lower Makefield Township Police K9 unit.

When police made contact with the victim, a 19 year-old resident of the home, he said he was sleeping in an upstairs bedroom when he heard knocking on the front door.  He told police that he initially ignored the knocking, but when he heard glass breaking inside the home he jumped out of bed and was met at the bedroom doorway by Saylor, of Stockton Court.

The victim said Saylor then fled the home. The K9 unit led police to a fenced-in area of a property on Stockton Court.  Police spoke with a witness, who told them that she had just seen her neighbor running from between the houses on Stockton Court.

Officers went to the house and made contact with the homeowners’ daughter, who told officers that her friend "Gerald" slept over last night and gave officers consent to search the residence, police said.

During the search, police located a room with a locked door on the second floor and heard someone inside.  According to police, they knocked and announced their presence but there was no answer. However, several minutes later a male yelled that he was going to open the door.

Saylor was then taken into custody and arrested and charged with: burglary, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, possession of an instrument of a crime and resisting arrest. The instrument of crime was the hammer police believe he used to break the sliding glass door of the home on North Ascot Court.

Nothing was taken from the burglarized home, police said.

Judge Maggie Snow arraigned Saylor via video and set bail at $50,000. After the arraignment, Saylor was transported to Bucks County Prison.
