By James Boyle:

A Newtown man faces misdemeanor charges of indecent exposure and open lewdness after Falls Township police officers say he revealed his genitals to shoppers at the BJ's Wholesale Club in Fairless Hills on Aug. 15.

According to the affidavit, a woman was standing in the protein bar aisle next to Richard Loeffler, 55, who faced away from her. She noticed that the right leg of his shorts was pulled up very high, the criminal complaint says, and when he turned to face her, his genitals were "hanging out."

When the victim informed two store managers of the incident, they searched the building for Loeffler, police say. The criminal complaint says that the managers found Loeffler in a different section and approached him from behind. As they got closer, police say, one manager could see that Loeffler exposed his genitals in front of an older female.

The managers interrupted Loeffler, who adjusted his shorts and began walking away from the aisle, the affidavit says. After he was told to leave the premises, Loeffler requested permission to pay for the groceries in his cart, police say. The store manager told police that he allowed Loeffler to make his purchase so he could obtain his identity by scanning the membership card.

According to police, Loeffler told officers that he thought the managers escorted him from the store because he had a loud confrontation with another shopper, and that he did not recall exposing his genitals.
