Newtown Township Police Blotter: Jan. 19 through 21

Recent activity as reported by the Newtown Township Police Department.

 

Thursday, Jan. 19

The owner of a business on Sycamore Street reported that he had used Craig’s list for business purposes and became the victim of an attempted fraud.  The victim reported that someone sent him a check and after he deposited it he learned that the check was counterfeit.  The fraudulent activity was discovered before the business owner provided the service to the person sending the check so he did not suffer any financial loss.

Shortly before 3 p.m., an officer stopped a motorist on Stoopville Road and learned that the driver, 51-year-old Richardson Ralston from Philadelphia, was driving with a suspended license.  The license was seized and Ralston received citations charging him with driving under suspension and driving without insurance.   

At approximately 4:40 p.m., a resident of Wrenwood Way reported that an hour before, two male subjects came to her door and told her they could repair cracks in her driveway for $100.  The resident agreed to pay for the service and when they were finished she paid them in cash. When she requested a receipt, they refused to provide one and left the area.  Citizens are reminded to ask any door-to-door sales people to see solicitors permit issued by the township.

Friday, January 20

Around 12:20 p.m., an officer stopped a motorist on Newtown Yardley Road due to a suspended vehicle registration on the vehicle.  At the stop the driver, 29-year-old Michael Boccardo Jr. of Langhorne received a citation charging him with the violation. The tag was seized and returned to PennDOT.  

At approximately 2:45 p.m., police responded to a home on Wrights Road for a report of a burglary that had just occurred.  The resident told the responding officer that he had been out for approximately 90 minutes. Upon returning home, he noticed that a brick had been used to smash out a window and the house had been entered.  The victim is in the process of listing the items that were taken in order to assist detectives with the investigation.  

Saturday, Jan. 21

Shortly after midnight, a resident of Society Place in Newtown Grant reported that she had used her credit card in a restaurant located on West Road around 7 p.m. and was just notified of fraudulent activity on her account. The victim checked her purse and discovered that she dropped her wallet earlier.  The victim has cancelled all her credit cards and notified her bank of the situation.   

Around 3 a.m., while on patrol on York Street, an officer observed a vehicle with heavily tinted windows with the engine running.  The officer noticed that there was a person in the driver’s seat and made contact with the male subject. The 17 year-old Newtown Township resident told the officer that he was waiting to see his girlfriend, who lives on the street.  The officer made contact with the girlfriend and determined that all was in order.
