Newtown Township Police Blotter: Jan. 3 through 15

Recent activity as reported by the Newtown Township Police Department.

 

Tuesday, Jan. 3

Shortly after 5 p.m. a customer of Great Clips on South Eagle Road reported that while he was getting a hair cut, someone took his jacket that had his car keys in the pocket.  Police are attempting to identify the person who took the jacket.

Thursday, Jan. 5

A resident of Eagleton Farms Road called police around 10:10 a.m. to report that at some point after 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 3 and 5:30 a.m. on Jan. 4 someone entered her unlocked vehicle taking an I-Pad and an I-Pod.  The two items are valued at approximately $1,400.

Saturday, Jan. 7

Around 3:20 p.m., police responded to the area of High Street when a resident reported seeing three subjects walking along the street and driveways peering into parked cars.  The caller felt that the subjects might be looking for unlocked cars in order to take valuables.  The area was checked but officers did not locate the suspicious people. 

A motorist called police shortly after 7:40 p.m. to report that there was an abandoned bicycle along the side of Linton Hill Road.  An officer located the bike and it is now being stored at police headquarters until the owner is identified.     

Wednesday, Jan. 11

Police were dispatched to the Acme Market just before 11:30 a.m. for a report of a retail theft that had just occurred.  Employees informed the responding officers that the male subject took approximately $225 worth of lobster tails without paying for them.  The situation remains under investigation. 

An officer initiated a traffic stop on a motorist on Stoopville Road around 1:30 p.m. due to numerous vehicle code violations.  The vehicle was towed from the scene since it was not covered by any insurance.  The driver, 33 year-old Adam Vonhohen from Rushland Road in Jamison, received a citation charging him with the violation. 

Thursday, Jan. 12

While an officer was on foot patrol in the Village at Newtown Shopping Center, a motorist stopped him to report that someone was attempting to steel a vehicle parked in the front of one of the businesses.  The officer responded and located a mechanic who was repairing the vehicle in question at the request of the owner. 

A resident of Parkview Way came to police headquarters around 4 p.m. to report that she was the victim of credit card fraud.  The victim told the officer that online purchases exceeding $1,000 had been charged against her account.  The bank has closed the account and will credit the amount of losses back to the account holder. 

Shortly after 8 p.m., an employee of the Hair Cuttery reported that she parked her vehicle in the parking lot around 3 p.m. and when she was done work at 8 p.m., she discovered that a window of her car had been smashed out and her purse had been stolen from under the driver’s seat.  The purse contained the owner’s driver’s license, a credit card, a cell phone and a small amount of cash.  There were no witnesses to the theft. 

Friday, Jan. 13

At approximately 11:35 am police responded to an unoccupied building on Stoopville Road for a report that two male subjects were removing scrap metal.  Officer located and identified the subjects as 29-year-old Kurt Yates of Tapered Oak Road in Langhorne and 23-year-old Justin Hemmingway of Bristol Oxford Valley Road in Levittown.  The suspects told police that they had permission from the owner to take the scrap metal.  The officers determined that was not the case and both subjects were required to return the metal and each received citations charging them with trespassing and criminal mischief and released.   

Around 11 p.m. police responded to a complaint of barking dogs on Susanna Way.  The responding officer located two dogs in a fenced in area, but no one was at home.  The investigating officer determined that police had received numerous complaints of the dogs disturbing the peace recently so he will issue citations to the owner of the animals. 

Sunday, Jan. 15

A resident of York Street called police to report that the four tires on his vehicle were slashed overnight.  The responding officer observed two to three inch rips in the sidewall of the tires. 

Around 10 a.m., police responded to Mahogany Walk for a report of a vehicle parked along the street with the engine running and occupied by an older male.  Officers checked the area, but he vehicle was no longer in the area.
