Newtown Township Police Log: Burglary on Stoopville Road

Recent police activity as reported by the Newtown Township Police Department.

Monday, May 2

Just before 11:00 a.m., a passing motorist flagged down a police officer patrolling in the Village at Newtown South to report that a vehicle had backed into one of the support posts on the building near the Lotus Garden restaurant.  The officer observed minor damage to the pole and notified Newtown Township Zoning personnel to respond to check for structural damage.  The owner of the vehicle was at the scene and the 67 year-old Langhorne woman told the officer that she had parked her van in the Fire Lane in front of the Hair Cuttery so she could run into the shop and put her name on the waiting list and when she came back outside her van wasn't where she left it.  The woman received a ticket for parking in the no parking zone. 

Shortly after 12:10 p.m., a resident of Linden Avenue reported that someone had spray painted his picnic table, tree, and grass with fluorescent green and orange paint.  A neighbor told the victim that they saw the juveniles doing the spray painting however didn't want to get involved.

At around 9:40 p.m., a resident of Cambridge Lane reported that a male subject came outside and threatened him because of the noise he was creating.  Responding officers checked the area, but the victim couldn't provide a description or where the suspect went when he left. 

Tuesday, May 3

A resident of Snow Drop Place came to police headquarters to report fraudulent activities on his checking account.  The victim arrived around 1:40 p.m. and explained to the officer that his bank was going to conduct an investigation. 

At approximately 3:00 p.m., a resident of East Hanover Street reported that she had been notified that someone had changed her address on her Visa to a location in Florida.  She said a $673 and a $700 charge were put on her account without her permission.

At around 5:40 p.m., police responded to the Wrenwood development in Wrightstown Township for a complaint that there were juveniles riding quads throughout the neighborhood.  The surrounding area was checked, but the officers didn't see or hear any of the ATVs. 

Police were dispatched to the area of West Hanover and Mill Pond in Newtown Crossing for a report that a white van was parked there with several people standing around it.  Officers determined that it was a group from Action Water Project, which is a political action group for clean water. He stated that they were done in the area and were waiting for several more volunteers to return before leaving.

Wednesday, May 4

A resident of Brecknock Court reports that several credit card accounts in her name had been fraudulently opened and used.  The victim reported that more than $3,000 had been charged to the various accounts. 

At approximately 12:45 p.m., police responded to a home on the 300 block of Stoopville Road for a burglar alarm activation. When the first officer arrived at the residence he discovered open doors, as additional officers arrived they checked the interior of the home and determined that it had been burglarized.  The homeowners were notified and responded home; they will compile a list of missing property.  Detectives will continue the investigation.    

Thursday, May 5

A resident of Newtown Grant reported that around 4:40 p.m., a suspicious male subject was walking up and down the street for the past 25 minutes.  The responding officer located the subject and he was identified and explained that he is Comcast sales representative and was trying to speak to people in the neighborhood about the service.

Police were dispatched to the area of Stoopville and Millstone roads for a complaint that unauthorized individuals were fishing on private property.  The subjects left without incident when police arrived on location.

Friday, May 6

At around 9:30 p.m., police dispersed approximately 15 juveniles from the lawn and parking lot of Wendy's.  When officers requested that the teens leave the area they did so without incident.

Shortly after 10:00 p.m. police dispersed a different group of approximately 10 juveniles from the 7-11 parking lot.

Sunday, May 8

Police received a phone call from a man who reported that he parked his car in the driveway of a friend in the 1000 block of Cedar Lane at about 8:00 a.m. and then went bicycling until noon. His car was left unlocked and when he returned, he noticed that $100 and his work cell phone were missing.  The victim told police that a delivery was made to the house during that time and provided the information for the delivery company.
