Police: Numerous Thefts from Unlocked Cars Reported

Recent activity reported by the Newtown Township Police Department includes numerous overnight thefts from unlocked vehicles.

Lock your car at all times -- even if you're parked in the driveway.

That's the message that should be taken away from the most recent police reports provided by the Newtown Township Police Department. This week, numerous overnight thefts from unlocked vehicles were reported throughout the township.

According to police, residents of Yorkshire Drive, Burgundy Lane, and Sutton Court on Tuesday reported that items had been stolen from their unlocked vehicles overnight.  One victim reported more than $2,300 worth of computer equipment was taken. Another reported that his wallet containing his debit card was taken and used in New Jersey. The third victim told police that several items valued at $1,500, including a laptop, were taken.

Detectives are conducting an investigation into the crimes.

That same day, a resident of Devon Court reported that at some point overnight someone entered her unlocked vehicle, which was parked in the driveway, and stole approximately $100 worth of gift cards from various retailers.  There was no damage to the vehicle, police said.

Other police activity this week included the following incidents:

On Monday, police responded to Roberts Ridge Park shortly after noon for a report that someone had defaced the restroom doors.  The responding officer observed and photographed the graffiti that had been sprayed on the restroom doors.  In a similar incident, police are also investigating graffiti on windows and a door of a business building located on Terry Drive.

Police were informed Tuesday afternoon that a large sign advertising real estate had been stolen from a property on Pine Lane.  The caller told the officer that this is not the first time that signs have been removed from this location.
