Police Continue To Receive Numerous Reports of Thefts From Cars

Recent activity as reported by the Newtown Township Police Department

The following activity was reported by Newtown Township police:

Monday, Oct. 10

While patrolling on the Newtown Bypass at approximately 2:50 p.m., an officer observed a motorist driving a vehicle without inspection stickers.   The officer stopped the motorist near Lower Silver Lake Road and determined that the temporary registration tag had been illegally altered, the driver did not have a valid license and the vehicle was uninsured.  The tag was seized, the vehicle was towed from the scene and the driver, 31 year-old Cirilo Rojas of Lakewood, N.J., will receive citations in the mail charging him with the violations.

At approximately 3:15 p.m., police responded to Leedom Way for a report of a suspicious couple walking around the rear of the townhouses peering into the homes.  The responding officers checked the area and several of the units in the area, but didn’t find the couple or any problems with the homes. 

Shortly after 6 p.m., the manager of the Newtown Athletic Club reported a theft of lawn maintenance equipment from a garage on the property.  The manager will provide a detailed list of the stolen items and the value to the police for further investigation.

Police responded to the area of Brookdale Place to retrieve two street signs that had been found by a resident.  The signs were taken to the Public Words Department to be reinstalled at the proper locations.  

Around 10:20 p.m., a student of Bucks County Community College reported that he had accidentally left his car unlocked when he parked it around 5 p.m. and when he returned to it he found that someone had gone into the car and taken a Net Book Computer, cologne and some clothing. 

Tuesday, Oct. 11

Shortly after 3 a.m. police responded to Camellia Court for a report of an unknown female on the deck of one of the homes.  The responding officer found 28 year-old Elizabeth Wickham, who lives on Sequoia Drive. Wickham was transported home and will receive citations in the mail charging her with disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.  

Wednesday, Oct. 12

At approximately 9:20 a.m., a man came to police headquarters to turn in a wallet he found while walking on Twining Bridge Road.  Police notified the owner of the wallet by phone that his property could be claimed.  

A resident of Prince Philip Court reported that she parked her vehicle overnight and this morning around 7:30 a.m., she discovered that someone entered the unlocked vehicle and took her purse.  The victim was in the process of notifying the credit card companies of the theft. 

Around 4:30 p.m. a resident of Churchill Lane reported that her unlocked vehicle was parked in her driveway last night and this morning she discovered that someone had stolen her GPS unit along with her purse.

Another resident of Churchill Lane called police around 8:25 p.m. to report that she was also a victim of a theft from her unlocked vehicle.  The victim reported that there was a significant amount of cash taken from the vehicle overnight.  

Shortly before 9:30 p.m., police responded to the Bucks County Community College for a report of a theft from a vehicle in the parking lot.  The victim reported that he parked his car around 6:30 p.m. and when he returned shortly after 9 p.m. he discovered his laptop computer, a GPS unit and a phone charger were taken from the car. 

Friday, Oct. 14

Police responded to Grant Street around 2:40 p.m. for a report of two suspicious persons wearing orange safety vests going door to door.  The responding officer locating the two males, who were soliciting for Comcast and they did have valid soliciting permits issued by Newtown Township. 

Saturday, Oct. 15

A resident of Society Place reported that outside decorative items and plants valued at approximately $100 had been stolen from his property. 

Around 10:30 p.m., police were dispatched to the area of Parkview Court for a complaint of juveniles loitering in the area.  The responding officer located the juveniles at the playground and they did not appear to be causing a problem.   

Sunday, Oct. 16

Shortly after 11:30 p.m., a resident of Lower Moreland called to report that her purse had been stolen while she was at a function at the Newtown Athletic Club last night.  The victim told police that she left her gym bag and purse unattended for a short period of time and when she went to retrieve them her purse was missing.
