Newtown Township Police have arrested 21-year-old Aloysius Carroll of Newtown Borough in connection with numerous thefts from vehicles in the area.

Earlier this month, Newtown Township Police Detectives made contact with personnel from surrounding police departments and learned that a resident of Newtown Borough had recently sold several electronic devices, including iPods and GPS systems, to various retailers that buy and sell property.

Newtown Township Police obtained a list of items sold by the subject between June and August.  On August 8, a township detective contacted the Garmin Company and spoke with a representative regarding the Garmin GPS System customer registrations on file.

Through the conversation, it was determined that one of the units sold by Carroll was registered to a resident of Newtown Township.  Detectives contacted the resident and confirmed that the unit had been stolen from the owner’s unlocked vehicle around July 22.

The victim also provided the serial number from a camera that had been stolen at the same time.  The detective confirmed that the camera had also been sold by Carroll.

On Aug. 10, a search warrant was issued for Carroll’s home on Chancellor Street.  When police executed the warrant, Carroll was not at home, but family members were cooperative.

Police located additional evidence to further the investigation.

At approximately 4 p.m. on Aug. 10, police returned to the Carroll residence and arrested Aloysius.

He was arraigned before Judge Donald Nasshorn and remanded to the Bucks County Prison on $50,000 bail.  The investigation will continue in attempts to locate additional victims.
