Police Report Suspicious Incident at Newtown Swim Club

And a resident of Hillhaven Court reported that his home was burglarized Thursday while he was at work.

Shortly before 1 p.m., a resident of Willow Drive came to police headquarters to report that one of her credit card accounts had been used fraudulently in Florida.  The victim told the officer that she was in possession of the original card. The purchases totaled approximately $300.

At approximately 6:50 p.m., a resident of Washington Avenue in Wrightstown Township called police to report that people were riding quads on the street.  The caller the problem typically occurs in late afternoon and on weekends.   

Shortly after 9 p.m., police were dispatched Martin Court when the homeowner called to report that someone was ringing his doorbell and pounding on the door. The responding officer observed an occupied PECO truck in the cul-de-sac and made contact with the driver who explained that he was checking the residence for a gas leak.  The homeowner was advised of the situation.

Wednesday, March 28

A resident of Alexander’s Court in Wrightstown Township called police to report that he had received a phone call informing her that she won $2.5 million through Publishers Clearing House.  The caller then asked for the homeowner’s personal identification information.  The resident declined to provide the information the caller then provided two phone numbers for her to call provide the information. The phone numbers were checked by police and they are based out of Kingston, Jamaica.

A resident of Delaware Court came to police headquarters around 7 p.m. to turn in a wallet he found in the area of Princess Lane and Delaware Court.  There was an Arizona driver’s license in the wallet, but police were unsuccessful in located the owner.  The wallet remains in storage at police headquarters. 

Around 8:45 p.m., police were dispatched to Hillcroft Way for a report of a van that was parked in the parking lot. It had been there for several days and the caller felt is was suspicious.  The responding officer ran the registration on the vehicle in order to determine the owner’s identity and contacted the company.  The owner explained that his employees were working on a construction project at one of the condominiums and the van would be removed as soon as the work is completed

Thursday, March 29

Around 4 p.m., an employee of the reported that a male subject, who was not a member, came into the club and asked to use the fitness room before entering the locker room.  A short time later a second man who was not a member, came into the facility at which time he and the first man asked to use the swimming pool.  When they were told the pool was outside they exited the building, got into the same vehicle and left the parking lot.  Approximately one hour later, a member who had been in the club discovered that his wallet had been taken from an unlocked locker in the locker room.  He immediately checked his credit card account on the computer and learned that the card had been used while he was still in the gym.  The situation remains under investigation by police.

Shortly after 11:10 p.m., a resident of Hillhaven Court reported that his home had been burglarized while he was at work.  The victim reported that his home was secure when he left around 6:45 a.m. and when he returned around 11 p.m., he discovered drawers and closets opened with items missing.  Responding officers observed a window that had been forced open where the criminal gained entry.  The victim reported a computer, multiple coins and other collectable items were among items that he could immediately confirm had been stolen.  He will compile a complete list for the detectives to further the investigation. 

Friday, March 30

At approximately 12:40 a.m., police received a report that there were three unauthorized motorists on the truck scale within one of the quarries located on Swamp Road in Wrightstown Township.  The caller told police that the subjects left the area when she noticed their presence and yelled at them to leave.  She provided police with descriptions of the vehicles and police were able to locate and stop two of them and identify the occupants.  The caller told police that the quarry did not want to move forward with charges, but wanted the subjects informed that if they returned to the quarry they would face charges of trespassing.  

A resident of Essex Place called police around 10 a.m. to report that she had been notified of fraudulent activity on her credit card.  The victim reported that more than $2,000 had been charged against her account.  The reporting officer will follow up on the situation.

Police were dispatched to the at approximately 2:15 p.m. for a report that a customer’s wallet had been stolen, but the victim did not see who may have taken it.  As the officer was on his way he received supplemental information that the wallet had been located on the Pharmacy counter where the customer had left it and all the contents were accounted for. 

While patrolling on the Newtown Bypass shortly after 3 p.m., an officer observed a motorist with a suspended registration plate.  The officer stopped the motorist near Buck Road and issued the driver, 47 year-old Denia Beh of Morrell Avenue in Philadelphia, received a citation charging her with the violation.  The vehicle was towed from the scene and Beh was transported to a safe location to wait for a ride. 

Shortly after 4 p.m., police dispersed multiple groups of juveniles that loitering in the parking lot area on the Village at Newtown South.

Police received a complaint of two individuals soliciting door-to-door on Westfield Drive around 7:15 p.m.  The responding officer located the subjects and determined that they had valid township permits.

Around 10:20 p.m., police located an occupied vehicle at the playground in Newtown Crossing.  The occupants were advised to leave the area, which they did without incident.
