Resident Scammed Out of $50K, Newtown Police Say

Scammers told the man he needed to send payment for transactions if he wanted to receive the prize money, according to information from police

International scammers have victimized a Wrightstown resident to the tune of $50,000, Newtown Township police say.

According to police, the resident came to police headquarters Wednesday and told officers that he received a call about a year ago indicating that he was the winner of an international lottery. The callers told the man he needed to send payments if he wanted to receive the prize money, according to information from police. 

To date, the victim told police he has sent more than $50,000 to the callers but has yet to receive any money in return.
