'Staggering' Man Leaves 7-Eleven, Gets DUI, Police Say

After leaving the convenience store, police said the 45-year-old Upper Makefield resident committed multiple traffic violations.

An employee of 7-Eleven called police around 3 a.m. Tuesday to report that a man came in to the store “staggering and intoxicated” before getting back into car and driving away, Newtown Township Police said.  The caller provided a description of the car in question and one of the officers located the vehicle driving north on Eagle Road.

The officer said the driver, later identified as a 45-year-old Upper Makefield resident, committed multiple traffic violations. Police said when he was stopped, it was evident the man was under the influence of alcohol and that he was "incapable of safe driving." He was taken into custody and transported to Saint Mary Medical Center, where blood was drawn for testing. DUI charges are pending.

Also on Tuesday, a resident of Heather Court came to police headquarters to report that sometime on Sunday, someone entered her unlocked vehicle and took a leather suitcase containing her hair styling equipment.  The case and equipment has an estimated value of $250.
