10 Trucks Stopped in Safety Detail, DUI Arrest Made, Police Say

The following activity was reported recently by Newtown Township Police Department.

Newtown Township Police reported the following recent activity:

A Yardley resident contacted police Wednesday to report that someone stole her purse from her car on March 23. She said the theft may have occurred while she was shopping at the Village at Newtown Shopping Center or it may have happened in Upper Makefield Township. 

Officers from Newtown Township and Newtown Borough conducted a Motor Carrier Safety Detail Thursday on Washington Avenue in Newtown Borough between 6:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. During the detail officers stopped 10 trucks; four violations were discovered and one citation was issued.

Around 1:00 a.m. Friday, an officer stopped a car on Laurel Circle after observing the driver commit several violations.  At the stop, the driver, a 50-year-old Newtown Township resident, was arrested for suspected DUI. The man was taken to Saint Mary Medical Center to have blood drawn after he submitted to a portable breath test showing a result of .016%. Charges are pending the results of the blood work.
