Township Police Aid FBI in Investigating Fake Driver's License Scheme

Daniel Duncan of Illinois has been charged in conjunction with the scheme, U.S. Attorney Zane David Memeger announced today.

The Newtown Township Police Department assisted the FBI and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service in investigating a fake driver’s license scheme for which one man has been charged.

According to information from the FBI, a superseding indictment was filed today against Daniel Duncan of Illinois, charging him with mail fraud, possession of more than 15 unauthorized access devices, the production of, or the aiding and abetting the production of, false driver’s licenses and aggravated identity theft, United States Attorney Zane David Memeger said in a statement.

The superseding indictment arises from Duncan’s May 24 arrest at the Lehigh International Airport. The indictment alleges he was in possession of 12 false driver’s licenses containing the names and addresses of actual victims.

Newtown Township Police said they became involved in the case after Duncan's arrest because Pennsylvania State Police learned that two of the victims of the fraud live in Newtown Township.

According to information from the FBI Duncan is from Rockford, Il and was born in 1989.

If convicted of all charges, the defendant faces a minimum mandatory sentence of two years in prison up to a statutory maximum of 105 years.

The case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Lehigh Northampton Airport Authority Police Department and the Newtown Township Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Alexander T.H. Nguyen.
