Township Police: Credit Card Fraud, Noise Complaints Reported

Recent activity as reported by the Newtown Township Police Department.

Tuesday, May 17

At around 1:45 a.m., a police officer discovered a female juvenile riding her bicycle on Durham Road.  The officer made contact with the 15-year-old and determined that she left home without the knowledge of her mother.  The officer took the teen home and turned her over to her mother. 

Police were dispatched to the cul-de-sac on Lotus Place just after 2:00 a.m. for a report of two occupied vehicles.  The responding officer made contact with the occupants and learned that they had just dropped off a friend at his home on Lotus Place and were just talking.  The did leave the area when the officer asked them to.

Tuesday, May 17

A resident of Stoopville Road reported that she hired a contractor to work at her home.  She paid him $3,750 for supplies to get started, but the contractor purchased $500 worth of material and installed it.  After that part of the project was completed he wanted $1,500 more dollars, but the victim refused, telling the contractor that he would receive more money when the job was completed.  The contractor left the key and told the homeowner that wouldn't do any more work.  The victim was advised to file civil complaint at District Court.

Shortly before 3:00 p.m., a resident of Copperleaf Drive reported that two male subjects were going through the trashcans by the curb in the neighborhood about 30 minutes prior to the call.  The officer explained that once the cans are placed by the curb anyone can go through them, he also advised the resident if the situation is repeated he should call while the subjects are in the neighborhood.  

Wednesday, May 18

Around 11:20 a.m., police responded to Linden Avenue after a caller told police that the house is vacant and he is in the process of making repairs to rent it out.  He told police he had painted the door trim recently and when he arrived at the location he discovered fresh pry marks that weren’t there the day before, but the door was not forced open. 

A resident of Newtown Township came to police headquarters to report that his debit card had been used to make several unauthorized on line purchases totaling more than $500.  The victim notified his bank and cancelled his card.                          

Thursday, May 19

Just before 4 p.m., a resident of Valley View Way reported suspicious activity on her debit card.  The credit card company is conducting the investigation and the victim will not be responsible for the loss of more than $4,000 in fraudulent activity on her account.

Friday, May 20

At approximately 2:45 p.m., a resident of Commonwealth Drive reported that he received a phone call indicating that he won the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes.  The reporting party was instructed to send $1,250 dollars to an address in Jamaica in order to collect his winnings.  The resident did not send the money but reported the fraud to Publishers Clearing House. 

A resident of Pickering Drive reported that several vehicles parked on the street near his home and juveniles were yelling in the area. The call was received around 10:15 p.m. and the responding officer made contact with the parents supervising their teenager’s birthday party.  The noise level was reduced and no further police action was required. 

Police were dispatched to the area of Alexander Court and Windy Bush Road shortly after midnight to investigate a fireworks complaint. The officer spoke with the homeowner, who admitted that he had been shooting off fireworks. The resident told the officer that he believed that it was permitted since he bought them at a fireworks store in Middletown Township.  The officer explained the Pennsylvania law regarding fireworks and the resident agreed he would not set off any more fireworks.

Saturday, May 21

At around 3:30 a.m. police received an anonymous complaint about a suspicious vehicle parked on Penns Trail near Brecknock Court.  The responding officer located the vehicle in question and determined that the driver was in the SUV that had two flat tires.  The driver informed the officer that he was waiting for assistance from AAA. 

Sunday, May 22

While on routine patrol, an officer noticed several juveniles skate boarding in the Newtown Skate Park, which is closed. The teens were advised that the park was closed for repairs and a “No Trespassing” sign is clearly displayed. They understood and left without incident.
