Township Police Foil Plot To Steal Baby Formula

A 35-year-old Northampton Township man will face charges after trying to steal nearly $700 in baby formula from Acme and Genuardi's.

 

A 35-year-old Northampton Township man will face charges in conjunction with a baby formula theft spree, which occurred last week.

According to police, John Campbell, 35, from Trailwood Drive in Northampton Township took $450 worth of baby formula from Acme and then tried to take $253 worth of formula from Genuardi’s but was unsuccessful.

Police said this is the third confirmed retail theft that Campbell has committed recently. Because of that, he was arraigned, released on $10,000 bail and ordered not to leave his home until his court date. 

The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29, when police were dispatched to the Village at Newtown Shopping Center for a report of an attempted retail theft at Genuardi’s Market.

Employees of the store provided police a description of the male subject, who they said left the store on foot and was last seen boarding a SEPTA bus.  Officers stopped the bus on South Lincoln Avenue and a located Campbell, who fit the description provided by the Genuardi’s employees. He was taken into custody. 

Campbell was in possession of a duffel bag containing baby formula containers with Acme Market stickers on the sides.  Police investigation revealed that Campbell stole the formula from Acme before heading next door to Genuardi’s.
