Township Police: Four Black Bear Sightings Wednesday

Police have released further details about the black bear sightings that occurred in Newtown and Wrightstown Township Wednesday.

Newtown Township Police said around 6:30 a.m. that morning, they were dispatched to the area of Atkinson Lane in Newtown Township for a report of a black bear on the caller’s property.  

“When the officer arrived at the location, the caller told him that the bear was last seen running towards Wrightstown Road,” according to information provided by police.  

Then, shortly before 9 a.m. police received a call from a passing motorist who reported seeing a black bear on Brownsburg Road near Crest Road in Wrightstown Township.  Police estimate the location is about a mile from the first sighting.

The area was checked, but officers did not see the animal, police said.  

Around 3 p.m., a third call was received reporting a black bear sighting on Second Street Pike.  Two residents of Ridge Avenue in Wrightstown called shortly after 4 p.m. to report seeing the cub. 

“Responding officers saw the young black bear cub running in the area of Alexander Way but it eluded police and was observed traveling in a northerly direction,” police said.  

The Pennsylvania Game Commission was notified of the sightings.
