Township Police: More Overnight Thefts From Unlocked Cars

Recent activity as reported by the Newtown Township Police Department.

Monday, May 9

At around 2:20 p.m., police were dispatched to the area of Windham Court for a report of a male subject sleeping in a parked vehicle.  The officer made contact with the man who explained that he owns property on the street and was waiting to meet a contractor.

Shortly before 2:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a one-vehicle traffic accident in the 2200 block of Second Street Pike in Wrightstown Township.  When officers arrived and made contact with the driver, a 76 year-old Wrightstown resident, she told them that she may have fallen asleep before her car left the road, went into a ditch, then impacted a large rock and moved it across the width of the driveway.  The woman refused medical attention and called a tow truck to get her car.

A resident of Northrup Court came to police headquarters to report that she had received an unsolicited email for her to sign up to be a mystery shopper. She also received a Fed-Ex envelope containing a US Postal Service money order and instructions for her to immediately cash the check and send the funds to a Western Union in the Philippines.  The officer advised the woman that the money order was not legitimate. He said she should ignore any further communications, destroy the check, and file a complaint with US Postal Inspectors.

At around 10:45 a.m., a resident of Society Place reported that three new credit card accounts had been fraudulently opened in his name. Police are investigating the purchases that were made in excess of $6,000.

A representative of Council Rock High School North reported the theft of a movable aluminum dock plate.  The loss was discovered on April 25. A replacement value of the plate is estimated at $432.

Wednesday, May 11

A student of Bucks County Community College reported that around 11 a.m., she left belongings in the lobby of Rollins Center while she went to her car to retrieve some books and when she returned to the location, she discovered that someone had taken her purse.  She canceled her checks and credit cards that were in the purse. 

Shortly after 5 p.m., police received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked on North Drive with a man sitting in the car.  When the officer made contact with the driver, he explained that he was picking up his mother from a babysitting job on Mahogany Walk.  The officer instructed the man that in the future he should park in the driveway of the home where his mother was working.

Thursday, May 12

Police received reports from five residents of Autumn Drive that someone had entered their vehicles overnight. The victims reported various items were taken, such as: compact discs, sunglasses, GPS units, clothing, and keys.  Another resident of Autumn Drive reported that someone entered the shed on the side of his property and took approximately $2,500 worth of lawn maintenance equipment. The victim was not sure if the shed was locked, but there were not any signs of force to the lock mechanism or damage to the door.  He told the officer that the equipment was in the shed at 5 p.m. Wednesday evening and discovered the next day at 5 p.m.

Shortly after 4 p.m., a resident of Gablewing Circle reported that his son's 20" BMX bicycle was stolen from the common area on Harvest Mews at approximately 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.  The bike is described as a red “NEXT” bicycle with pegs on the front and rear wheels, which are also red.  The victim had no serial number for the bike, but said that it is valued between $75 and $100.  The area was checked by officers, but the bike was not located. 

Friday, May 13

At approximately 1:45 p.m., a resident of Newtown Township reported that her four-year-old son was bitten by a dog while they were at Roberts Ridge Park earlier.  Police made contact with the owner of the dog to confirm that the animal’s shots were up to date. 

Sunday, May 15

A resident of Hidden Turn Lane reported that someone had thrown eggs at the front of his house overnight.  No other neighbors reported problems of egging or other criminal mischief activity.
