The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors on Wednesday unanimously approved a $41,000, three-year maintenance agreement for Veterans Park.
The maintenance agreement with Superior Turf will begin in 2014, township manager Kurt Ferguson explained, and will have an annual cost of $13,824.
The park was officially dedicated in May 2011 but because of problems with the quality of the grass, the fields have only been utilized on a limited basis. The park, located off Durham Road across the street from Clark Nature Center, has six ball fields.
Earlier in February, to make necessary improvements to the park so the grass will grow properly on the fields. The township and the contractor, Adams-Bickel Associates, are currently in litigation over the $2.4 million contract for the park.
Council Rock Newtown Athletic Association used the park on a limited basis last spring, but it came with a $7,000 price tag. That’s the amount the CRNAA had to pay to build mounds and prepare the fields for play.
And why can't I pick on the current board, the current president, Michael Gallagher, was arrested for DUI and tried to strong arm the arresting officer. With " a blood alcohol content reading of .171 percent", this is appalling.... Just a DISGRACE! http://www.buckslocalnews.com/articles/2010/01/31/the_advance/news/doc4b65b8b96382d697350757.txt
