Board Chairman Mike Gallagher praised Czajkowski and thanked him for his service to the township. “One of the most important things Joe did for me and the rest of the board was to always be prepared to address the issues we were facing,” Gallagher said.

Gallagher added Czajkowski lead the township through numerous accomplishments, including the construction of a new administration building and two parks.

“When I found out Joe was leaving, I was disappointed for myself and for Newtown. Joe, we’ll miss you,” Gallagher said.

Czajkowski, who has said he is leaving because the job is closer to home and his children, said he’ll miss Newtown.

“I want to thank the board.  It’s been a pleasure,” he said.

After the board formally accepted Czajkowski’s resignation, Police Chief Rick Pasqualini was unanimously appointed as interim manager.

Gallagher said the board has narrowed the candidates for township manager down to five finalists and hopes to have someone in the position by the beginning of June.
