Borough Council Approves $80K in Expenditures

Some of the expenditures include painting and replacing the roof on Borough Hall, storm drain cleaning and the purchase of salt for next winter.

Newtown Borough Council on Tuesday unanimously approved the following expenditures:

  • $7,300 to paint Borough Hall
  • $8,000 to replace the roofs on Borough Hall and adjacent shed
  • $3,100 for street sweeping
  • $12,000 to clean the storm drains
  • $40,000 to paint the crosswalks
  • $9,600 to purchase salt for next winter

The items, which were budgeted for in the current borough spending plan, were discussed at a Borough Council work session last week. And while there was a general consensus to approve the items, no formal vote was taken at that time. Borough Solicitor Bill Bolla told council a vote was not required.

Resident Julia Woldorf, a former council member, expressed her concerns during Tuesday's public comment that the items were not voted on individually at the previous meeting. Council President Bob Walker agreed to conduct a formal vote on each of the expenditures.

All items passed unanimously.
