Borough Council To Meet Tonight

The agenda includes an update on the Penn Street sinkhole, a special event application for the Holiday Parade, and changes to special event application fees.

The Newtown Borough Council will meet for its regular meeting tonight at the Chancellor Center beginning at 7 p.m.

The agenda begins with a police report and special events announcements, including a First Fourth parade on July 2 in the township, Movies in the Park, which begins June 21, and the Antique Auto Show, which will be held July 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Council will also consider a special event application for the Holiday Parade, which is scheduled for Dec. 4 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The engineer’s report will include an update on the Penn Street sinkhole, which was discussed at Wednesday’s work session.

The agenda will then move to committee reports. Council member Perry Warren will provide the Personnel Committee report, which seeks to appoint Karen White to fill an unexpired term on the Planning Commission through Dec. 31, 2012.

Council member John Burke will provide the Recreation Board report, which will include discussion and consideration of approving a swing set purchase and installation at Linton Memorial Park.

Sellers will provide the Streets, Lights, and Properties Committee report, which will include consideration of a resolution to apply for the Automated Red Light Enforcement Transportation Enhancement Grants Program.

Solicitor Paul Cohen will then provide his report, which includes consideration of amending the special events ordinance and adopting a resolution that changes the special events application fee to $25 per day and establishes a $60 per hour per officer fee for special event services. 

Cohen’s report will also include consideration of the following items: changing the borough fee schedule to include impervious surface/storm water management permits and copies of CDs or DVDs requested under the Right to Know Act; advertisement of an ordinance for parking structure definition and use; advertisement of a noise ordinance; and a Zoning Hearing Board application for 29 S. State Street.

There will also be discussion of a sidewalk ordinance.
