Borough Council to Meet With Local Business Owners Wednesday

A roundtable discussion with State Street business owners begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Borough Hall.

The Newtown Borough Council on Wednesday will carve out a portion of its regular work session meeting to hold a roundtable discussion with local business owners.

The discussion begins at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at Borough Hall, 23 N State Street.

The idea for the roundtable discussion was proposed last month by Council member Mike Sellers.

Sellers said he thought it was important for officials to meet with local business owners and talk about how Council can help them thrive in this sluggish economy.

“I think it’s an obligation on our part to dedicate time to sit down and talk to them,” Sellers said last month.

Once the roundtable concludes, Council will move on to the regular agenda for the meeting, which includes a decision on the repair of the sinkhole at Penn and State streets.

Additionally, there will be a discussion about removing a ramp at Lafayette and Lincoln streets. There will also be an introductory discussion of an anti-discrimination ordinance.

In old business, Council is expected to discuss Phillips Court Lighting Proposals.
