Borough Preparing For Winter

Newtown Borough will purchase 120 tons of road salt by Sept. 1 in order to take advantage of pre-winter prices.

It might be July, but Newtown Borough has winter on the brain.

Borough Council on Wednesday unanimously approved the purchase of 120 tons of road salt at $80 a ton for a total cost of $9,600.

The borough traditionally purchases its salt in the off-season to save money, Council member Mike Sellers said.

The borough will purchase the salt from Scott’s All Season at the summer price, which is in place through Sept. 1.

The salt will be stored until the winter and delievered when needed, Sellers said.
