Dynamic Changes In Board Of Supervisors Race

Earlier this week, Republican Robert Whartenby announced he will withdraw from the race for a seat on the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors.

The dynamic of the race for two seats on the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors changed this week, as one Republican candidate stepped down. Republicans say they respect Robert Whartenby’s from the race and are excited to continue the campaign.

Whartenby withdrew from the race because he said his employment status recently changed and his job search may require relocation.

"After great consideration, I regret that I will not be continuing my candidacy,” Whartenby said. “With my recent release from employment, I have a strong obligation to my family to use my time and resources in the pursuit of my career. I believe the residents of Newtown will understand that my first priority is, and must remain, with the well being of my family.”

Margaret Chleboski has been selected to replace Whartenby on the Republican ticket with Ryan Gallagher.

Gallagher says that he respects Whartenby’s decision.

“Robert is doing what is best for his family, and I have a lot of respect for that,” Gallagher said. “At the same time, I am excited to continue a successful campaign with Margaret. We are both long-time residents of Newtown who have a deep commitment to its future prosperity.”

Chleboski currently serves as the Newtown Township auditor and has been a volunteer for various organizations and community events. She is married with two children.

“I am very excited to join the race,” Chleboski said. “Ryan and I share the same commitment to keeping taxes low, promoting fiscal responsibility and long-term planning, and encouraging redevelopment — all to preserve the wonderful quality of life in this beautiful town.”

Two seats on the five-member board are up in November. Gallagher and Chleboski will face Democrats Phillip Calabro, an incumbent, and Mark Joseph.

“I am thankful that Margaret is able to step forward and know that her experience, commitment and initiative will serve Newtown and its citizens well,” said Whartenby. “I wish her and Ryan great success in the coming months as they present their positive message of continuing the record of fiscal discipline that the current supervisors have built.”
