Quinn Re-Elected in 143rd

Republican Marguerite Quinn won her bid for re-election to the 143rd state House District.

Marguerite Quinn handily won another term in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives on Tuesday.

With 30 of 32 districts reporting, Quinn, a Republican, had garnered more than 62 percent of the vote in the race for the 143rd District.

Quinn faced a challenge from Democrat Joe Frederick for the House seat which represents 10 municipalities in Central and Upper Bucks, and stretches from Doylestown up to Riegelsville.

As of 11:40 p.m., Quinn had won 19,644 votes to Frederick's 11,930.

Tuesday afternoon, as she visited with voters at a polling place in Doylestown, Quinn asked for their support at the polls.

"I've worked hard on your behalf for the past six years, and I hope for the opportunity to continue to do so," she said, at Doylestown's Center Square Towers, a senior living center.

Both candidates spent Tuesday visiting the 33 polling places throughout the district.

Frederick was up in Durham Township Tuesday morning, working his way back down to Doylestown through the early afternoon.

At each polling place he visited, he said voters were turning out in droves.

"Turnout has been really, really high, which has been great to see," Frederick said.

Frederick's campaign team acknowledged Tuesday that voter registration was against them, as Republicans outnumber Democrats in the district.

Quinn has held the 143rd district since 2007. Before her, it was held by prominent local Republicans Chuck McIlhinney, Jr., Joe Conti, David Heckler and Jim Greenwood. Each of them went on to become the state senator for the 10th district, an office McIlhinney still holds.

A Democrat has not held the 143rd since Margaret George, who was in office from 1977 to 1980.

Natural gas drilling, or fracking, and funding for public education were key issues in the race.
