Groups Urge GOP Lawmakers to Solve Looming Fiscal Cliff

Local groups held rallies Monday outside Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick's office in Middletown and in Bristol Borough.

Events focusing on urging lawmakers to extent middle-class tax breaks that are set to end if a solution to avert the fiscal cliff is not found by the end of the year were held in lower Bucks County on Monday.

The crowds gathered outside the building that houses Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick's office in Middletown and later on the streets of Bristol Borough.

Outside the congressman's office, a group of more than 50 gathered to speak about how decisions by Republican lawmakers have impacted their lives.

Later in the evening, many of the same people met at the Christmas tree on Mill Street in the borough to attend a "holiday-themed vigil," according to the group that organized the rally, Pa. Working Families.

Doylestown businessman Det Ansinn and Pastor James Evans of the Norton Avenue Baptist Church spoke at the evening event.

While I do understand the plight of these caretakers and citizens, this fiscal cliff will impact healthcare as well as our own pocketbooks. However, Mr. Meyerson seems a bit uneducated in understanding that the unions, especially teachers, also need to take responsibility for raping the taxpayer of their hard earned dollars. I would like to see him offer to pay a family's medical costs and contribute more dollars to their bottom line just as the taxpayer has to work for not only their own family related expenses but also to support our dear union members. Mr. Meyerson, instead of flapping your gums and blowing alot of hot air, I would like to engage you in an educated discussion as to how the uions nowadays negatively impact the taxpayer. Until then keep in mind private industry is what creates jobs and makes the world go round, not unions.

Funny, doesn't look like any of them looking for a job are hurting for food. What a crock! why aren't any of these drains on society asking their man Obama to avoid going over the fiscal cliff? I also gaurantee you they don't even know what the fiscal cliff is..just as long as they get their free stuff.

Bump in the Road Obama and the Dems couldn't compromise a year ago so they created the fiscal cliff. Now they need the Republicans to bail them out. On principal I think we should go over the fiscal cliff. Continuing the current behaviors is just going to make things worse anyway, so going over the cliff may not be so bad. Without going over the fiscal cliff, medicare and Social Security will run out of money in less than 20 years according to the governments own OMB estimates. All the young people who voted for BO in November are going to have to work a lot longer before getting Social Security or Medicare (if they haven't completely collapsed by then), than their parents. By then BO will be long gone.

Tony I agree. I have said also let us just go over the cliff and be done with it. Let his loyal followers pay the price of what their vote got us another four years of in office. TP - You are correct. Many have no understanding of what the fiscal cliff is or the impact of it either way. Until our liberals stop giving people things without earning them, nothing in this country will change. We will continue to have generations of welfare, baby producing individuals expecting the gov't to take care of them. I have many times challenged the liberals I know to open their wallet and write a check for that poor person that depends upon gov't assistance since I don't want my hard earned dollars going towards supporting their lack of ambition and common sense. So far, not one has taken me up on the challenge. As they say and I believe after the election results, Americans are just getting dumber.
