Low Turnout in Newtown for Primary Election

Turnout for today's Primary Election has been light, according to local officials.

On the national level, the fight for the GOP presidential nominee has ended with Mitt Romney as the presumptive nominee.

Locally, two Republican candidates are vying for the chance to face Democrat Steve Santarsiero in the November election for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.  

Helen Bosley and Anne Chapman, both Lower Makefield residents, are competing for the chance to unseat Santarsiero in District 31, which includes Lower Makefield, Newtown, Upper Makefield and Yardley. 

Newtown Township supervisor and Chapman supporter Rob Ciervo was handing out information at the polls at . He said he had been there since the polls opened and turnout throughout the morning was light.

He said he noticed a slight uptick in participation around 11 a.m. or so.

Ciervo, who ran against Santarsiero in 2010, said it seems this primary election is attracting loyal voters who participate in each election despite the stakes.
