Mysterious Signs Appear at Wrightstown Polling Place

Two large signs reading "Please Have Your Photo ID Ready" were placed at the Anchor Run church polling place.

Update: As of 4 p.m. the sign was still up.

OUTSIDE PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Two large signs reading "Please Have Your Photo ID Ready" in all capital letters and neon coloring were placed at a local polling place, despite the fact that an ID is not required to vote in this election.

However, no one is taking responsibility for putting up the signs, which were placed at the entry to the polling line in Wrightstown Township.

For instant update, follow Newtown Patch on Facebook and Twitter.

Susan Schino, of the Wrightstown Democrats, said when she arrived at 7 a.m. to the polls, the two signs were highly visible to voters. Some voters, she said, were getting out of line because they didn't bring an ID.

Schino said she asked the judge of elections who had put the signs up and he said he didn't know. "He had a worker make a little sign to put in the corner," she said. The little, blue letters on the small sign read: "You may vote without ID if you are registered."

Schino said the judge of elections said the poll workers did not bring the signs. Schino said no one at the polling location admitted to putting the signs up, however, they still stood as of 10 a.m. despite the confusion.

I can't beleave the number of people on hear complaing about having to show your ID... being a retired disable american veteran i have had to have a ID for the last 53 years.... i had to show it to renew my drivers license, had to show it to cash my checks untill i started direct deposit... oh wait i needed id for that, i needed id for social security... had to show id to get a toll transponder because of strict fraudulent thefts of them... and the last thing that burns me is the fact that the only ones who should be allowed to early vote is military..... if we need more polling places open them up..... thats the way it was 20 years ago... early voting started under Democrat controll

Everyone needs to get off their soapbox about whether or not ID should be required to vote. The story here is that a sign was posted in a state that passed a voter ID law but is not yet in effect. This has created an environment of confusion and a greater chance of voter disenfranchisement and/or suppression.

Respect the right to vote for ALL, not just the ones you agree with-- 1. There is reason to protest or object to signs that are NOT the law

THERE is a RIGHT TO VOTE---Respect the right to vote for ALL, the Constitution does discuss the right to votes, here are quote from the 19th Amendment:
USCS Const. Amend. 19, § 1 Sec. 1. [Woman suffrage.] The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.

It's amazing that people still think it is appropriate to vote for the people who will be leading us without showing any kind of ID. Picture ID is the best, but a voter's registration card is the best. In fact, both should have to be shown in order to vote for president of the country. Only registered citizens should be allowed to have this honor, not illegals, not non-citizens, not those barred for certain reasons, and definitely not be able to vote more than once. My goodness, i have to show my license in order to stay at a hotel (or another type of ID), show my license at stores when I go to use my credit card, show an ID and have a credit card to rent a car, etc. And some people, and many in high political positions, do not think it is necessary to have ID in order to vote. What is wrong with this picure?

EVEN republicans who created the additional demands of Voters ID admit voter fraud does not exist in any meaningful part...
McCain Strategist Admits Voter Fraud ‘Doesn’t Really Exist’ By Igor Volsky on Nov 5, 2012 at 10:46 am Steve Schmidt, a former senior strategist to Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) 2008 presidential campaign, admitted that widespread voter fraud doesn’t exist in the United States and claimed that the GOP-backed voter ID laws are based on “mythology.” Read the whole story: http://thinkprogress.org/election/2012/11/05/1139141/mccain-strategist-admits-voter-fraud-doesnt-really-exist/?mobile=nc

Is there a problem....REALLY?.....Since 2000, there has been about one case of voter impersonation per every 15 million votes cast, according to a report from ProPublica, and even proponents of voter ID have struggled to identify cases of fraud. Meanwhile, state-based efforts forcing voters to produce picture identifications could disproportionately disenfranchise minorities who typically vote for Democratic candidates.

Second Voter ID laws do not correct any problem, and they do not prevent any real evil...voter fraud really does not exist and providing an ID does not cure a problem--- how many people have successfully used IDs to drink underage...its a distraction... the true purpose is voter disenfranchisement... thats wrong... thats what we should be looking into...the votes actually cast that are not counted

When they first started requiring government issued idea to fly, I almost couldn't get home. I used my company photo ID to fly to NYC for a business meeting. When it came time to go home, I was told that that was not acceptable -- I must have a government issued ID. Since I don't drive, I didn't have a license and my Sheriff's ID wasn't acceptable either.. So, there I was in LaGuardia airport in my business suit with my briefcase and my return ticket .... but no acceptable ID. Finally a supervisor realized the stupidity of the situation and let me on the plane.

PA polling people are to ask for ID but PA residents are not required to provide it this time. They are then informed that the next election in PA a ID will be needed.
Sandy Kirk November 6, 2012 at 10:46 pm
IDs are not free in many states, here they are 25.00, and since you mention donuts, dumbass and foodstamps so much in your post, you must be a dumbass, eats lots of donuts and live on foodstamps yourself. Plus you are very ignorant.

Haywood Joublomie, please stop with the personal attacks and name calling. It's frankly rude and not constructive to anyone.

@Bob B- my Mom passed away last December at the age of 85. She never drove in her life, so she had no driver's license. She also never applied for PA's photo ID- didn't have ANY ID that included her picture. Yet she was able to collect Social Security, have a bank account, credit cards, receive medical care, etc. The voter ID law in PA was rushed into effect in order to stop people likely to vote for President Obama from voting, Fortunately, the courts ruled that there was not enough time to allow everyone to have the ID needed, so it will not be in effect for THIS election.
RLH November 6, 2012 at 11:24 pm
Take the blasted sign DOWN ... don't add a postage stamp to an incorrect billboard. This is a BLATANT attempt to keep people who might not have a driver's license (i.e.; poor ... who are likely to vote Democratic) from voting! People in the whole area should be ashamed, if not humiliated.
Carol November 6, 2012 at 11:39 pm
Bringing ID to such an important process must be requirement, after the 2008 election debacle I would have thought it would be in 2012, go figure. Regardless, who travels anywhere without ID today? Really, that's a no-brainer question ... come on!
Carol November 7, 2012 at 12:00 am
Get-outa-town! Sorry but that is the most ignorant excuse ever! Poor, rich, minority, non-minority, old, young, walkers, joggers, bike riders, Big Wheel riders, Americans, Martians, Republicans. Democrats ... yada, yada, yada. Stop already with the bias remarks! Racissum, Agecissum, Tallcissum, Shortcissum .. Cissums are Dinosaurs & those who attempt to perpetuate are Perpetuatcissms. Give it break Dinocissum .. Now have a good day, Enjoy the Election.

This is the only election in the past 19 years that my husband has not been told," You can't vote today since we show you have already voted by asentee ballot." He has never voted by absenteeism since I have been with him. Their response is, "well, you can do a provissional ballot. At least it will cancel out whoever voted for you." Like that is comforting. That is a very clear case of voter fraud.

Kara, thank you so much for advocating online tonight, what we need to advocate going forward after the election, our economy will rebound, our country will be safe...those things are well established, but this dialogue is concerning, and we need to bring everyone together for the mission of all of US... So vote today, root tonight, but come together soon behind our President.
Keith Thomas November 7, 2012 at 04:43 am
Well, looks like another 4 years of...nothingness. I supported Obama in his first term, until I realized that he was a "do nothing" President. Now we will have a lame duck President and nothing changes. As I watch everyone on TV cheer and celebrate, I have to wonder for what they are cheering and celebrating. There will be no "coming together" because this is a divided country and Obama is not qualified to bring about the coming together needed. Instead, what we will get, is more of the same: Obama will try to do something; the Republicans we rebuke it; Obama will crawl off to the White House and do nothing. When you have two candidates who are only concerned with the middle-class and no one else-you will get no where. And folks...that is exactly what we are getting for another four years. So much for, "Forward!"
