Republicans Announce Candidacy for Board of Supervisors

Robert Whartenby and Ryan Gallagher will run for two seats on the five-member board

Newtown Township Republicans have selected candidates for two seats on the Board of Supervisors that will open up this year.

Robert Whartenby and Ryan Gallagher will run for the two seats on the five-member board currently held by Democrats Jerry Schenkman and Phil Calabro.

Whartenby, 44, of Poppy Court, has lived in Newtown Township for 10 years.  He is a construction manager with a master’s degree in City and Regional Planning from Rutgers University.

He serves as co-chair of the Newtown Township Planning Commission.

Whartenby said he decided to run for supervisor because he is civic minded and has always wanted to have a role in the community.  “I believe you really can’t complain unless you’re involved. I want to be involved,” he said.

If elected, Whartenby said he plans to focus on economic development within the community.

He said he would like to see the township solicit more businesses so the reliance for tax revenue is not all based on property taxes.

Whartenby said he would like to make Newtown Township a more business-friendly environment that will attract new businesses.
