Supervisors to Discuss Skate Park Fence Donation Tonight

The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the township Administration Building.

The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors will meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the township Administration Building.

The agenda includes discussion of a fence donation for the municipal Skate Park.

During last month’s meeting, the supervisors said they were not inclined to immediately move forward on the installation of a fence around the skate park, which is located behind Staples off the Newtown Bypass.  Some officials were in favor of the fence for enforcement and safety reasons.

However, due to the cost of the fence, the majority on the board did not want to make it a priority. The total cost to the township for the fence would likely be $6,000 to $7,000, according to township officials.

The skate park was reopened in early June after being closed in March due to noise complaints from residents of the Tyler Walk community. The township installed noise reduction measures, including spray foam and enclosures.

However some Tyler Walk residents were not fully satsfied, saying they suspect illegal behavior, including drug use, is taking place at the park.

Newtown Township Police Chief Rick Pasqualini said that’s not the case and noted that since the park opened in the fall of 2010, a small amount of marijuana was confiscated on one occasion.

However, as a solution to the issue of people trespassing into the park after hours, the supervisors said they would look into the possibility of a fence for enforcement purposes.

Check back to Patch later tonight after the meeting for more information about the potential fence donation.
