Swim Club Owner Working on Revisions to Plan

David Platt, owner of the Newtown Swim Club, is working on revisions to a plan that was expected to bring more than 60 townhomes to the club's site.

Platt, who is sick with cancer, is reported by the Bucks County Courier Times to have a “handshake agreement” to sell the club property on Newtown Yardley Road to County Builders.

Platt went to the board in July to request a zoning change for the property that would allow 64 townhomes to built at the site, the paper reported.

The zoning change request "allows more units per acre adjoining the borough because it is more consistent with the borough’s higher housing density," BucksLocalNews.com states. The change would require a variance due to the fact that the club's property is close but does not touch the borough border.

“We listened very carefully to what [the supervisors] had to say. We're trying to address the land plans to accommodate what they said,” Platt is quoted as telling BucksLocalNews.com.

The new plans are expected to feature less single-family townhomes, the Courier reported. Traffic and several other factors contributed to the supervisors disapproval of the plan.

Platt and his attorney are planning to meet with the supervisors in the coming weeks to discuss revisions to the plan.

The swin club that next summer is expected to be the club's last due to Platt's battle with melanoma.
