Swim Club Townhome Development to be Reviewed by Planning Commission

The Planning Commission on Tuesday will review a proposal for a townhome development at the Newtown Swim Club property.

The commission will review the Planned Residential Development application for 56 townhomes on the Newtown Swim Club property, which is closing after this summer.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at the township Administration Building. Click here to view the complete agenda.

The Planning Commission will make a recommendation on the tentative application.  The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors will review the application at its next meeting on July 24. If tentative approval is given, then a final application will go back to both boards for approval.

A Planned Residential Development hearing is a planning component that towns have to help streamline projects that are larger in nature, explained township manager Kurt Ferguson. He noted the applicant will still have to go through traditional planning procedures to control storm water management and other factors.

The developer, County Builders, had previously filed an application for a 56-pad trailer park on the property. However, the trailer park proposal was met with an uproar of dissent from neighboring residents, who said such a development would jeopardize property values in the Headley, Wiltshire Walk and Raintree communities, among others.

In response to the residents’ concerns, the township supervisors in April agreed to a series of parameters set forth by County Builders to construct townhomes instead of a mobile home park on property.
