Township To Consider 2012 Budget Wednesday

The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors will consider a 2012 budget that includes $10.6 million in operating expenditures.

The budget up for consideration includes $10.6 million in operating expenditures and comes with no tax increase. In 2011, Newtown Township’s tax rate was 2.5 mills—or $94 for the average homeowner.

The township, finding itself with increasing contractual obligations and stagnant revenues, has elected to freeze wages for CWA employees in 2012 and will require all non-union employees to contribute to their pension fund. Non-union employees will be asked to contribute 2.5 percent of their salary in 2012 and 5 percent in 2013 if the budget passes as proposed.
