$209.4M Budget on Thursday School Board Agenda

The $209.4 million budget calls for a 1.3 percent tax increase, or $55 for the median assessed home in Council Rock.

Council Rock School Board members will weigh in Thursday on a $209.4 million preliminary budget that proposes a tax increase of $55 for the average household.

The proposed budget for the 2013-14 fiscal year calls for a 1.3 percent tax increase, or $55 for the median assessed home in Council Rock.

The budget keeps general fund expenditures "mostly flat" with two exceptions—the district's pension contribution and the addition of six staff positions, according to district officials.

The school district’s share of the contribution to the Public School State Retirement System (PSERS) will increase by $2.3 million for a total contribution of $18.4 million dollars, according to administrators.

The six additional staff positions are recommended by the administration to improve school safety and security, officials said.

"The Proposed Budget is the first formal step in passing the final 2013-14 budget," according to an email from the district. "Pennsylvania Law requires that this budget be on display for no less than 30 days before the Board considers a final budget.  Interested members of the community are welcome to attend Thursday’s meeting."

Thursday's meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Chancellor Center.
