Clean Your Car, Help a Cause

The Goddard School is holding a car wash Wednesday to benefit the AJ Foundation, a local nonprofit that helps children with autism.

If you’re waiting for the rain to wash your car, you might be waiting a while. This week in Newtown, there’s a better way to get your ride looking sparkling clean. Plus, you’ll be helping a good cause.

This Wednesday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., is holding its annual charity car wash. The car wash will raise money for the AJ Foundation, an organization that supports children with autism.

The school's junior and senior campers, who are between ages 4 and 8, will be washing the cars. “Even our 1-, 2-, and 3-year-olds help out,” said Trish Isgan, the school’s assistant director.

The AJ Foundation, headquartered in Wycombe, is a nonprofit organization that was formed in January 1997 by family members and friends of children with autism. The mission of the AJ Foundation is to implement and support quality educational services dedicated to improving lives of children with autism.

According to Goddard School officials, the greatest accomplishment for the AJ Foundation to date has been the opening of one of the first highly specialized private schools in Pennsylvania for children with autism. The school, called the Comprehensive Learning Center, is located in Southampton.

"We are all delighted to generate awareness and support for a good cause," said Wendy Somers, franchisee of The Goddard School in Newtown.  "The teachers and children are anticipating a lot of fun and a great learning experience."

Members of the public can stop by the school, located at 119 Pheasant Run, to get their cars washed and support the cause. There’s no set price; people typically make a donation based on their comfort level, Isgan said.
