Council Rock Approves 2011-2012 School Calendar
The first day of school next year will be Aug. 29, which is before Labor Day.
The Council Rock School Board unanimously approved the calendar for the 2011-2012 school year at its meeting Thursday.
The first day of school for the next school year is Monday, Aug. 29, 2011. The start of school falls before Labor Day, which is Sept. 5, 2011.
According to the district, if Labor Day falls on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th of September, the first day of school is after Labor Day. However, if the holiday falls on the 5th, 6th or 7th day of September, school opens the week before Labor Day.

The last day of school is June 14, 2012. If no snow days are used, the last day of school will be moved up to June 7, 2012.
Council Rock Superintendent Mark Klein pointed out that school will be open Jan. 2, a federal holiday because New Years Day falls on a Sunday in 2012.

“We are going to bring students in that Monday for a variety of reasons; number one, they’ve been home for nine days already,” Klein said. “I think it makes sense and there are a number of school districts that are following suit with us.”
Klein said the district wants to limit the amount of time students are in school during June because of heat.
