Council Rock Considers Eliminating the Per Capita Tax

The tax, which some board members say is a nuisance to collect, is $10 per person.

Should the Per Capita Tax be eliminated?

That was the question at Thursday’s school board meeting. But the final answer has yet to be decided.

A vote to eliminate the $10 tax tied at 4 to 4. However, the board voted to consider it again at a meeting on June 5 when all members are present, the Advance reported

There are nine members on the Council Rock School Board. President Wendi Thomas was not present at Thursday’s meeting, enabling a tie. The $10 per person tax generated $462,000 for the district in the 2013-2014 budget, according to figures reported by the Advance. 

Board members in favor of eliminating the tax say it is a nuisance to collect and is inefficient.
