Council Rock North Recognized As One Of Nation's Top Schools

Council Rock High School North in Newtown was listed as 246 out of 500 in Newsweek's annual ranking of public high schools.

Newsweek magazine has listed Council Rock High School North in its 2011 ranking of the top 500 public high schools in the nation. Council Rock North, located in Newtown, was listed as 246 out of 500 schools in the annual ranking.

For more than a decade, Newsweek has issued an annual ranking of public high schools using six components: graduation rate, college matriculation rate, AP tests taken per graduate, average SAT/ACT scores, average AP/IB/AICE scores, and AP courses offered.

Council Rock North was ranked as fifth in the state.  It was the top Bucks County public high school listed in the ranking, with Central Bucks East following right behind as sixth in the state.

According to data published by Newsweek, Council Rock North’s student-to-teacher ratio is 17 to 1. The top-ranked school in the state, Harriton High School in Rosemont, has a student to teacher ratio of 11 to 1.  The data reflects a 99 percent graduation rate at Council Rock North, with 92 percent of its students college bound. According to the ranking, Council Rock North’s average SAT score is 1672.

Council Rock High School South was also ranked as a top 10 public high school in Pennsylvania. Council Rock South, located in Holland, was ranked ninth in the state and 314 overall.
