Council Rock North Wins Third Place in B101 Competition

Neshaminy High School won first place in the radio station's Christmas Choir Competition for its version of "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas."

Council Rock North's Master Singers have earned third place in B101’s Christmas Choir Competition, the radio station announced this morning. The third place prize is $1,000.

Neshaminy High School won first place for its version of "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas." The grand prize is a chance to sing with Peter Nero and the Philly Pops during a concert on Dec. 19 and a new Cunningham Grand Piano. 

Upper Merion High School got second place, winning $2,000, for its rendition of "Slow Dancing in the Snow.

The North Master Singers beat out the competition with its rendition of "Deck the Halls" during Wednesday's semi-finals. Council Rock North faced Hatboro-Horsham High School and the Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush in its round of the semi-finals.

For the past four years, Philadelphia-based B101 has sponsored the Christmas Choir Competition, which involves an initial audition and then a showcase of local choirs. The audio rendition of the song is played on the radio and listeners are asked to vote online for their favorite.
