Council Rock Officials Waiting For State Figures

Superintendent Mark Klein says he's "fairly" certain the state will restore $1.5 in social security funding, which would mean no tax increase or further cuts for the district. A final budget will be passed by the board June 23.

Council Rock Superintendent Mark Klein on Thursday said he is “fairly” certain lawmakers in Harrisburg will pass a budget that restores social security funding for the district.

His confidence is based on conversations with State Senator Tommy Tomlinson and State Rep. Steve Santarsiero.

If that in fact happens, Council Rock will see $1.5 million more in revenue for 2011-2012 than it initially anticipated. That additional money would mean no tax increase for residents and no more cuts for the district.

Klein there’s also a chance that as much as $1 million more, in addition to the $1.5 for social security, will be restored as well.  The House this month passed a budget that increases the district’s subsidy by $2.5 million, including $1.5 for social security. However, the senate has yet to take action on a budget

The state’s deadline for agreeing on a budget is June 30. That presents a tricky situation for the district, which will be passing its budget June 23.
