Council Rock Revises Proposed Calendar for 2012-2013

The administration added a day to spring break, making it a five-day long weekend.

Council Rock School District has revised the proposed calendar for 2012-2013 to include an additional day in the spring break long weekend.

According to officials, the 2012-2013 calendar is "complicated" for a number of reasons. Typically, when Labor Day falls on Sept. 1, 2 or 3, school will start following the holiday. This year, it falls on Sept. 4, so the administration has elected to begin school after the holiday as well. But two required teacher in-service days will prevent all students from returning until that Friday, Sept. 7.

"To accommodate a calendar that allows for a reasonable time to end school, the 2012-13 calendar changes the traditional Spring Break from a week to a Friday – Monday extended weekend.  It also designates a half-day for students in May during primary election day," a letter from the district to parents said.

If this calendar is approved by the school board, the last day of school for students could be as late as June 20 or as early as June 13, depending on how many snow days are used.
