Council Rock To Revise Weighted Grade System

Starting in 2012-2013, students taking accelerated courses are eligible for a GPA of 4.2 if they earn all As.

Starting in the 2012-2013 school year, Council Rock will alter its current GPA system to allow students taking accelerated courses to receive weighted grades. Once the changes are implemented, students in accelerated course courses can receive a GPA of 4.2 if they earn straight As.

The school board on Thursday discussed the measure, which has been reviewed by the district's Academic Standards Committee after significant community input.

The district said it is moving forward with the changes “in an effort to listen to the input of our school community and respond to their concerns.”

Under the weighting system to be implemented at the start of the 2012 school year, students who receive all As will have a 4.8 GPA if they are in Advanced Placement courses; a 4.5 GPA if they are in honors; a 4.2 if they are in accelerated; and a 4.0 for regular academic classes.
