District Announces Early Dismissal For 6 Schools Thursday Due To Heat

With temperatures predicted to be in the high 90s, six Council Rock elementary schools that don't have air conditioning will dismiss at 12:15 p.m.

Six Council Rock elementary schools will close early Thursday due to high heat and humidity predicted by the National Weather Service.

The following elementary schools will close early Thursday: Goodnoe, Sol Feinstone, Holland, Hillcrest, Richboro, and Wrightstown. Dismissal will begin at 12:15 p.m.

Dismissal will occur like any other half-day schedule, district officials said.  There will be no afternoon kindergarten and morning kindergarten students will be dismissed at 12:15 along with the other grades.  No lunches will be served and all after school activities are cancelled for Thursday.

The National Weather Service is calling for hot temperatures mid-week. Highs Thursday are expected to hover around 98 degrees.

The six schools that will close early do not have air conditioning. Schools that are climate controlled, including Churchville, Maureen M. Welch, Newtown, and Rolling Hills, as well as the middle and high schools will be open for a full day as usual on Thursday.

The Champions after-care program will remain open at each elementary school until normal closing time.

The district announced the closure Tuesday “to allow parents in our community to make preparations for this early dismissal,” according to a statement from officials.

“The present forecast suggests a significant change in temperature for Friday that will alleviate the high heat and humidity and will allow all of our schools to open and close at regular times on Friday,” the district statement said.

For specific questions about the procedures for Thursday, the district advises parents to contact their child’s school office. If there are updates and more information, it will be posted on the district website, www.crsd.org.
