Education Foundation To Announce 2011 Grant Recipients

Council Rock Education Foundation, which provides money for innovative classroom projects, will announce the newest grant recipients at tonight's school board meeting.

The Council Rock Education Foundation is expected to announce its 2011 grant recipients during tonight's school board meeting.

CREF is a charitable organization independent of the school district that supports programs that enrich and promote continued excellence in the local schools. Each year, CREF awards thousands of dollars in grant monies to innovative classroom projects throughout the district.

In 2010, CREF awarded nine grants totaling more than $11,000. Projects included a Family Science Night, a sculpture garden at Council Rock High School South, an organic garden at Newtown Elementary School, and a wind kit at Council Rock High School North.

Recipients of the 2011 grants will be revealed at the meeting, which begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Chancellor Center.

The agenda for the meeting also includes an update on the 2011-2012 budget, which must be passed before the end of this month. District officials said last month that the final budget would likely be passed at the board’s June 23 meeting.
