George School Standout Golfer Headed To Division One School

Kellie Edelblut, a member of George School's class of 2011, has been playing golf since she was three years old.

Kellie Edelblut’s passion for golf happened quite by accident and at a very young age.

Edelblut, George School’s standout golfer who graduated last month, and her family are members at the Trenton Country Club but originally joined for the swimming pool, not the course. One afternoon when Edelblut was just three years old, she ran away from the pool and was later found on the golf course.

Ever since that day, golf has been her passion. At tht young age, she began taking lessons and practicing on her own.

As a member of George School class of 2011, Edelblut was a star on the team. She played all four years -- three of those years she was the only female on the squad. She also played varsity soccer throughout her time at George School.

Edelblut said she enjoys the challenge and excitement of golf. “As satisfying as the sport may be, there’s always another goal you’re striving for,” she said.

George School coach Chip Poston said Edelblut, of New Hope, had an “amazing” career at George School, shooting the low score in nine of the team’s 13 contests last season.

In May, the 10-member coed team won its third consecutive Friends Schools League championship, shooting 333 to take the title. Edelblut was the second-lowest scorer with 74 during the Friends Schools League championship tournament.

She’ll continue to pursue her passion next year at The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va, where she will play for the Division One golf team.

She admits it will be a challenge balancing her academics with the rigor a Division One team demands. "But that’s what I signed up for and I accept the challenge,” she said.

Edelblut leaves for college in August. Until then, she’ll work as an instructor for a junior golf camp at Jericho Valley Country Club in New Hope. And of course, she’ll be playing plenty of golf.
