ID Required to Visit Council Rock Schools Starting Next Month

The new visitor management system is part of a series of security enhancements being implemented in Council Rock schools

Council Rock will begin using a new visitor management system starting Dec. 2.

The system, called RAPTOR, is part of a series of security enhancements being implemented in the district schools.

The RAPTOR system requires visitors to scan a driver’s license in the school office before gaining access to the building. “The system will print out a badge that includes the name of the visitor, a picture of the visitor and the time and date of the visit,” according to information from the district.

Additionally, the system will access an FBI sex-offender database and will alert staff when a visitor’s identification may match a person on that list. “Parents and other visitors to Council Rock Schools will need to enter schools with their driver’s license if they will be entering the school building to visit a classroom,” the district said in an email.

The RAPTOR system will not be in use for large events, like concerts and school plays.

“In cases where a parent is dropping off a lunch or stopping in the office to pick up a child for an appointment during the school day, access to the RAPTOR system will not be required,” according to the district.

Security improvements, which also include additional video cameras, secure vestibules, panic buttons and more, were approved last school year by the board.
