New backpack? Check. School clothes? Check. Pens and notebooks? Check. Up-to-date immunizations? Uhhh...

As part of back-to-school preparations, parents should be sure that their children's immunizations are up-to-date, as made changes to the requirements.

Students entering school later this month, must have received vaccinations for Tetanus, Diphtheria, Polio, Hepatitus B, Measles, Mumps, Chickenpox and Rubella, as outlined in "Are Your Kids Ready For School?" Children entering seventh grade have a few additional immunization requirements.

Most children are in compliance with the new requirements, according to literature provided by the school district, and those who are not in compliance should have already heard from the school nurse.

Proof of up-to-date immunizations should be sent to (116 Richboro Rd.) or faxed to 215-944-2698 no later than Sunday, Aug. 28.

These requirements are necessary in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and are provided to insure that school children are safe from diseased that can easily spread in schools. According to the materials from the school district, if your child doesn't get proof of immunizations submitted in time, he or she will be restricted from school until the immunizations have been complete.
