No Increase in School Lunch Prices Next Year

Elementary school lunch prices will remain at $2.75 and middle school prices will remain at $3.25 for Council Rock School District students.

Council Rock elementary and middle school students will pay the same for lunch next year.

Council Rock Director of Business Administration Rob Reinhart on Thursday presented the board with the lunch prices for the 2013-2014 school year. 

"All the costs of student lunches are going to remain the same," Reinhart said.

Elementary school lunch prices will likely remain at $2.75 and middle school prices will likely remain at $3.25.

The only increases will be for four items on the high schools' extensive a la carte menu, which includes paninis, soups, tacos and more.

Superintendent Mark Klein praised Chartwells, the company handles food service in the district.

"Our partnership with Chartwells continues to be one of the best independent contracts we have," he said.

School lunch prices increased this year because of new mandates requiring certain healthy components be served with each meal.

From 2011-2012 to this school year, elementary school lunches went up from $2.55 to $2.75 and middle school lunches increased by a quarter, from $3 to $3.25.
